Year 3 begins

We moved into Main Ridge Estate on 16th December 2015, during a heat wave and wasp plague. We were somewhat daunted taking over from Nat and Rose after their 40 pioneering years here. We had to learn quickly about life in a small family winery. Our first vintage soon followed, followed by a Red Hill winter that was not as cold as we imagined. Last December we finally completed renovating the property. All the while we have had incredible support from local winemakers and community. The 2016 and 2017 vintages were bountiful, and the scene is set for another great vintage in 2018.

We are often asked if we are happy with our new life as vignerons. The answer is a resounding YES! We live in a beautiful place, we have many new friends, we are busy and healthy, we are very proud of the wine we produce. The Mornington Peninsula is our new home

2018 Vintage report

Due to a cool-wet winter budburst began slightly later than usual, in late September. The extra rainfall has resulted in lush green canopies supporting abundant crops of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The rainfall eased during flowering giving way to excellent fruit-set, however the remaining moisture provided the challenge of increased disease pressure in the cooler parts of the vineyard. Fortunately Linda’s fastidious work kept this under control and with a relatively mild Summer to date, we look forward to what could be another spectacular vintage for the region!

New look newsletter

Many of our customers have requested email newsletters – while others prefer the traditional hard copy in the mailbox! Our newsletters will continue in both formats, and we will publish a more extensive annual Main Ridge Estate brochure to coincide with the Pinot Noir release in September each year.

Kind regards,
Tim, Libby and James Sexton
