Notes from a small vineyard

Over our first two vintages at Main Ridge Estate, Mother Nature has shown us the two extreme potentials of this vineyard site. From the warmth and generosity of 2016 vintage, to where we are now – the cool, concentrated and complex wines of the 2017 vintage.

Throughout the ripening period in Red Hill the region experienced one of the coolest and wettest February and March for the past 10 years. With murmurs of “2011 all over again” amongst local vignerons, we entered the 2017 vintage on the 6th of April, cautious but optimistic.

This long slow ripening period is reflected in the Pinot Noirs we are now very pleased to release; complex with savoury aromas and tightly bound structure that will give the wines long-lived cellaring potential.

In acknowledgement of this, we are now offering our ‘Half Acre’ Pinot Noir in magnum format (1.5L). Ideal for cellaring, just 100 bottles have been produced and are individually numbered.

There are just a few places remaining at the 2017 Pinot Release dinner at Grossi Florentino on Thursday 6th September, when we will also be celebrating the Langton’s Classification of the ‘Half Acre’. See HERE for information

2017 Pinot Noir Tasting notes

THE ACRE 2017 – Young and vibrant. The nose is all florals and spice; raspberry, violet, juniper. Powerful tannins will soften with time, giving way to complexity and length.

HALF ACRE 2017 – Long, slow ripening has taken the Half Acre block into a realm of dark brooding fruit, joined by earthy truffle and coffee aromas. Structure is telling of a wine that has more to give and will reward those who cellar.
